Products
Products are your raw ingredients — everything you purchase to use in preps and technical cards. Accurate product data is the foundation of correct cost calculations.
Adding a product
Go to Products in the sidebar and click Add product. Fill in the required fields:
- Name — e.g. "Chicken breast"
- Purchase unit — how you buy it (kg, L, pcs, box, etc.)
- Purchase price — price per purchase unit
- Recipe unit — how you measure it in recipes (g, ml, pcs)
- Conversion factor — how many recipe units equal one purchase unit. Example: 1 kg → 1000 g, so factor = 1000
Purchase unit vs Recipe unit
You buy products in one unit (e.g. a 5 L bottle of olive oil) but use them in recipes in another unit (e.g. ml). The conversion factor bridges the two:
- Purchase unit: L, Recipe unit: ml, Factor: 1000
- Purchase unit: kg, Recipe unit: g, Factor: 1000
- Purchase unit: box (12 pcs), Recipe unit: pcs, Factor: 12
Nappe uses this to calculate the price per recipe unit automatically: price per recipe unit = purchase price ÷ conversion factor.
Piece-based products (eggs, lemons, etc.)
For products sold and used by the piece, set both purchase unit and recipe unit topcs. You can optionally enter an average weight per piece(in grams) — this allows Nappe to calculate net weight in recipes more accurately.
Default loss percentages
You can set default cold loss % and thermal loss % on a product. These values are pre-filled when you add this product to a prep or technical card, but can always be overridden per line item.
Categories
Products can be assigned to categories (e.g. Meat, Dairy, Vegetables) to keep your list organized. Manage categories in Settings → General → Categories.
Archiving products
Instead of deleting, you can archive a product. Archived products are hidden from the main list but their data is preserved — existing cards and preps that use them still calculate correctly. Use the Show archived toggle to view archived products.
Free plan limit
The Free plan allows up to 20 products. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited products.
